On Monday, May 22, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, was fined 1.2 billion euros for breaching the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Irish regulator, in charge of applying the European text, found that the American giant had "continued to transfer personal data" of users from the European headquarters in Dublin to the United States in violation of the rules of the twenty-seven.
